Geoff Rushton, Sculpture
Nexus
2011
Oak, glass, acrylic paint, wax
50cm diameter
A wall sculpture, I turned a large piece of oak on a lathe to create a 'blank' which was then carved, painted, scorched, assembled and waxed.

With Nexus I created a piece which is solid and attention grabbing, creating it's own strong presence, while also blending with and being punctuated by it's surroundings.

The wall behind paints much of the piece's colours, the raised skeletal centre and the reflective property of the glass components mean that the appearance of the sculpture changes dramatically as the observer moves around it.
